VALENCIA, CITY OF SUN, CITY OF SCIENCIES & CITY OF HISTORY

    Worldscape 100

VALENCIA, Restaurant & Cervecería LA PRINCIPAL
    www.laprincipalrestaurante.com

We were introduced and invited to this restaurant by our agency partners and good friends from Sagunto and Valencia, Ignacio Montolio & Sergio Montolio www.simonmontolio.com who are frequently visiting this restaurant. The food is the freshest you can have, all beautifully prepared and delicious. The fried cod puffs are a most & a must.
If you want a true spanish “restaurant & bar-feeling” in Valencia we highly recommend La Principal for your lunch. There are two types of decor, a more modern one and a more rustic one, all in a nutshell; just outside the former walls of the old town of Valencia.

CÁCERES, when the good marmalade is in the small pot…

Cáceres is one of these typical small provincial cities which remain an undiscovered jewel and which delights and surprises everyone who aims to drive here, either from Madrid, Sevilla, Salamanca, or even from Portugal…this is not the type of place you cross through…this is the type of place you like to immerse through…and a Unesco Heritage too!

The writer of this tip had the pleasure to discover Cáceres during spring time, as well as the Extremadura region which literally means “Extremely Rough land”…this name is like a snail’s shell, it protects such a delicate interior. The landscapes of Extremadura are arguably amongst the most beautiful, unspoiled, virgin landscapes of Spain spotted everywhere with multicolourful wild flowers, wild green priaries, stork-nests, wild pigs and wild bulls…but we repeat…do this during spring time please, otherwise you might die in the attempt…and don’t be wild your self getting too close to the bulls…nor to the cows !

We would highly recommed two places to stay :

The first is a Starred Michelin on top of the medieval city of Cáceres

    www.restauranteatrio.com

The next one is a beautiful B&B (rural house) in the middle of the mountains between Cáceres and Trujillo, another gem of a town & homeland of the spanish discoverer and sailor Francsico de Pizarro (conqueror of Perú).

    TARRAGONA, a giant UNESCO heritage

Tarragona is the southern-most province of Catalonia & was a remarkable roman city today listed at the UNESCO heritage; but its importance somehow remains in the shadow (except for the persons like us,  people related to the Petrochemical Industry and the Crude Oil Refinery)…all of this keep Tarragona as an important european business landmark.

The touristic fame of Tarragona has only one problem: the vicinty of Barcelona, and this is perhaps some of the best circumstance for an off-the beaten track experience:

A walk at the Roman Ruins & the Cathedral, followed by a lunch in Restaurant CA L’EULALIA at the fishermen quarter of EL SERRALLO.

    www.caleulalia.com

If you are into fish and seafood, Ca L’Eulalia is a compulsory visit. Located in the Serrallo seafront (the famous fishermen quarter of Tarragona), they serve the best and most fresh fish and seafood from the coastal region, extremely well presented. As they serve what’s been just caught at sea, there’s no regular menu. Oscar, the co-owner may help you (if his mood is not fishy) to decide amongst their best catch they have on the day.

The restaurant is not only good for fish as Eulalia is a master of dessert. Last but not least the atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxed and homely, in honor to its city, TARRACO (TARRAGONA).

BARCELONA, check out this lovely italian vintage restaurant…

    LE CUCINE MANDAROSSO

Few places have as much charm as this little spot in Born. The food is amazing, very fresh and tasty.

The location is tricky, a small corner in the laberinthyc area of Born, just a few steps from the modernist masterpiece “Palau de la Musica”.

    Tapas Bar VINITUS, BARCELONA

Here comes a recommendation from someone who lives in Barcelona…

    …(the writer of this tip).

VINITUS is arguably one of the best choices in terms of fine quality/price & surely one of the coolest tapas-bar in Barcelona. The only (sometimes big) draw-back is that they don’t accept reservations and they might die from a rapid high demmand. Sofar they stand on very high quality for very affordable cost. So still a great spot.

(Ps. Don’t miss the small tapa of marinated sardine, exquissite!).
